The following animals are all available for adoption/ currently undergoing their observation period to see if suitable for adoption . For more details on each animal and to apply for adoption scroll down below.

Please note to adopt one of our lovely hedgehogs or tenrecs there is an adoption donation of £80 for those under 6 months, £70 for those under 12 months old, £60 for those over 12 months and £40 for our Golden Oldies (4 years + APH only). For Long Eared hedgehogs the adoption donation is set at £100. This donation allows for the rescue to intake more hedgehogs and tenrecs in need and allow essential veterinary access to those who need it. 

Under Observation

Hedgy

Location: London
Age:  Estimated 1-2 years old
Species: African Pygmy Hedgehog

About:  Joined Happy Quills 11/1/25. He is a teeny 280g, so his foster carer is trying to fatten him up. He is also suffering dry skin which they are working on. Age not known, looking at variety of factors we estimate over 1 but no older than 2. Very friendly and trusting little guy. Loves making poo boots each night. Due to weight and skin issues Hedgy will be under observation longer than the normal two week period.

Willow

Location: Dudley
Age:  2.5 years old
Species: African Pygmy Hedgehog

About:  Joined Happy Quills 5/3/25. On first impressions is friendly and very active. Willow will need to be kept under observation for at least 45 days so that any new owners do not get any unexpected additional surprises. Keep an eye out for updates once we know her personality better.

Peanut

Location: Sidmouth
Age:  3.5 years old
Species: African Pygmy Hedgehog

About:  Joined Happy Quills 29/3/25. Peanut is a small girl, weighing in at 304g. Beautiful autumnal colouring. First impressions looks in good health. May be available as part of our Golden Oldies in a few weeks, depending on further observation, or might become one of our permanent fosters.  Peanut will need to be kept under observation for at least 45 days so that any new owners do not get any unexpected additional surprises. Keep an eye out for updates once we know her personality better.

Bailey

Location: Thornton-Cleveleys
Age:  3 years old
Species: African Pygmy Hedgehog

About:  Joined Happy Quills 29/3/25. Bailey is a little chunk, but totally adorable with it. He loves freshly washed hair and chicken. No health issues observed at present. Further updates on personality will be posted once he settles in and can be fully assessed.

About:  Historically the beginning of the year is always quiet for hand-ins. Due to lots of adoptions in January and February, at the moment there is only a small selection of hogs, who will become available once we have fully assessed them. Keep checking in as the website will be updated as soon as we have new hand ins. You never know, the hog for you could be waiting just round the corner.

  • Ceramic Heat Emitter (CHE) Set Up, including:
    • Holder
    • 100w Bulb
    • Safety Cover
    • Thermostat
    • Digital Thermometer
  • Substrate - e.g. Fleece, Carefresh, Puppy Pads
  • At least One:
    • Bed
    • Tunnel
    • Pouch
  • Toys, Forage Tray or Mat
  • Bucket Wheel
    • We recommend Carolina Storm, Tic Tac, Squazlehogs, or Speedyhogs
  • Water Bowl, Kibble Bowl, and live food/fresh food bowl

LEH Requirements

Minimum Set up to Adopt or Foster:

  • Vivarium 4ft x 2ft x 18, preferably larger vivarium
  • Playpen or space for free roaming - Essential
  • Ceramic Heat Emitter (CHE) Set Up, including:
    • Holder
    • 100w Bulb
    • Safety Cover
    • Thermostat
    • Digital Thermometer
  • Substrate - e.g. finacard, paper based, aspen shavings and hemp bedding
  • At least one bed/hide
  • At least one tunnel
  • Plenty of stimulating toys - e.g. treat dispensers, forage boxes, forage mats, etc.
  • Bucket wheel 12" - 16", 12" minimum, ideally the biggest one you can fit in your enclosure 
  • Water Bowl, Kibble Bowl, and live food/fresh food bowl

Tenrec Requirements

Minimum Set Up to Adopt or Foster:

  • Vivarium 4ft x 18 x 18
  • Ceramic Heat Emitter (CHE) Set Up, including:
    • Holder

  • Water Bowl, Kibble Bowl, and live food/fresh food bowl
